What the report says

  • Advanced-Cal at 3 gal/ac was the top treatment at 6,300 lb/ac, 866 lb over the untreated check, a 16% gain.
  • That 3 gal/ac pass also beat a full 1,250 lb/ac gypsum program by 624 lb/ac: three gallons against well over half a ton of material.
  • The 3 gal/ac treatment finished first or second out of five in all four replication blocks, so the average is not resting on one lucky plot.
  • Grade held: TSMK ran 73.7% on both the 3 gal/ac and gypsum treatments against 72.3% untreated.
  • One pass at early pegging, sprayed in 10 gal/ac of water. All plots received the identical UF herbicide, fungicide and insecticide program.

Trial notes & scope

  • One year, one site, small replicated plots, per the report's own fine print. It notes that yield differences of this size can sit within normal field-to-field variability.
  • The report carries no p-value, LSD or CV, so the yield figures here are measured plot means rather than separated treatment means.
  • Rate response is not a straight line: 4 gal/ac returned +40 lb/ac while 3 and 5 gal/ac both gained. More calcium is not automatically more yield, which is the argument for sizing the rate off a soil test rather than a blanket number.
  • The untreated grade figure is a 3-plot average because one check plot's grading sample was not available.
  • The ROI figures assume 275-gal tote pricing at $13.09/gal and a $500/ton farmer-stock price. Your delivered cost and contract price will differ.
